Trader Steve’s Journey: Unlocking the Secrets of Gielinor

Why hello there, and welcome back to another thrilling episode of Trader Steve’s Journey Across Gielinor. Our intrepid explorer, Trader Steve, is on a mission to collect as many rare OSRS items as he can get his grubby little mitts on. This time, he’s embarking on a unique adventure that combines the thrill of item collection with the strategic challenge of chunk unlocking. Starting his journey in the Grand Exchange chunk, Steve can only unlock new adjacent chunks for every rare item worth more than one million gold coins that he adds to his collection. His ultimate goal? Obtaining the coveted Quest Cape.

In the first episode of Trader Steve’s journey, our hero managed to secure two rare, expensive items, allowing him to unlock two new chunks. The Edgeville chunk was the first to be unlocked, a strategic choice given its rich content and potential for exploration. The second unlocked chunk was Lumbridge, chosen primarily out of necessity for safety reasons. Should Steve meet an untimely demise, having Lumbridge unlocked ensures a safe respawn point within an accessible chunk.

Unlocking the Guardians of the Rift

At the end of the last episode, Steve hinted at his first major goal: unlocking the Guardians of the Rift minigame. This minigame is crucial for several reasons, the most important being the RuneCrafting Skilling outfit. This outfit boosts the amount of runes Steve can craft anywhere in Gielinor by a whopping 60%, making RuneCrafting significantly more profitable. Given Steve’s plans to do a fair bit of RuneCrafting shortly, unlocking the Temple of the Eye, the minigame’s entrance, is a priority.

However, the path to unlocking Guardians of the Rift is not without its challenges. The Temple of the Eye quest requires the completion of Rune Mysteries, one of the simplest quests in Old School RuneScape (OSRS). Despite its simplicity, Rune Mysteries necessitates traversing several new chunks, which means Steve will need a fair bit of money to unlock them.

Exploring Edgeville Dungeon and Chaos Druids

With his bank balance looking rather sparse, Steve decides to explore the Edgeville Dungeon. This area holds great potential, particularly because of the Chaos Druids residing there. Although Chaos Druids are low-level NPCs, they drop a wide variety of herbs, making them an excellent source of income for players with limited resources.

Steve’s initial plan is twofold: train his melee combat skills and generate some much-needed cash. After leveling his combat stats to 20 in the previous episode, Steve feels confident enough to take on the Chaos Druids. The low combat level of these Druids allows him to train effectively while accumulating valuable herb drops.

After some time spent slaying Chaos Druids, Steve’s combat stats improve significantly, reaching 30 Attack and Strength. More importantly, his inventory is filling up with herbs, which, when sold, are worth 56k. Steve decides to continue his herb-collecting endeavors until he reaches 40 Attack and Strength, aiming for a more substantial haul.

A Profitable Discovery: Necklace of Passage

In addition to his combat training, Steve stumbles upon a profitable money-making method: crafting Necklaces of Passage. In the previous episode, he discovered that creating these necklaces from Jades and Silver Bars was a lucrative venture. Surprisingly, the price of Necklaces of Passage has increased to nearly 1500 coins each, a significant jump from the last time he checked.

Although Steve’s funds are limited, he decides to invest in more Jades, Silver Bars, and Cosmic Runes to craft another batch of Necklaces of Passage. This time, he formulates a new technique to maximize efficiency: enchanting the necklaces as he walks back to the bank. This not only saves time but also helps mitigate the impact of his low Agility level, which often leaves him out of run energy.

After crafting 600 Necklaces of Passage, Steve stands to make almost 900k, provided they sell at the expected price. However, the market can be unpredictable, and Steve finds that the necklaces are selling slowly. Undeterred, he continues to train his combat skills, eventually reaching 40 Attack and Strength, unlocking the ability to wield a Rune Scimitar, a significant upgrade to his damage output.

Strategic Investments and Future Plans

While Steve waits for his necklaces to sell, he begins to consider his next steps. One of his primary concerns is increasing his Magic level. Although crafting levels are beneficial, Magic training is crucial for higher-level bosses and profitable money-making methods. Steve plans to use the Air Orb charging method to train Magic while making money, as this activity is conveniently located only one chunk away from Edgeville.

In preparation for this, Steve attempts to purchase a Black Mask, a valuable item for Slayer tasks. Although Slayer training is not feasible at this stage due to the scattered locations of Slayer monsters, the Black Mask is still a worthwhile investment. Priced at around one million Runescape Gold, the Black Mask is an affordable purchase that allows Steve to unlock another chunk.

A New Chunk and New Opportunities

With his recent success in crafting and combat training, Steve finds himself with enough funds to unlock another chunk. This time, he opts to expand westward from the Lumbridge chunk, aiming to reach Draenor Village. The new chunk, labeled as 12594, doesn’t offer much in terms of content, but it does provide a valuable tree patch for future Farming training and access to the HAM Hideout.

As Steve continues to sell his necklaces and generate income, he reaches a significant milestone: 60 Crafting. This level doesn’t unlock any new immediate opportunities, but it brings Steve closer to his long-term goals, such as obtaining the Crafting Cape. Additionally, Steve’s Magic level has risen to 55, granting him access to the High Alchemy spell. High Alchemy will be an essential tool for leveling Magic while maintaining a steady cash flow.

Conclusion

Trader Steve’s journey across Gielinor is just beginning, and with each new chunk unlocked, he gets closer to his ultimate goal of obtaining the Quest Cape. His recent successes in combat training, crafting, and Magic have laid a strong foundation for future endeavors. As he continues to explore, trade, and strategize, there’s no telling what rare items and exciting adventures await him in the vast world of Gielinor.
